Historically the word ‘student’ refers to someone who learns something. However, the most recent definition of the word ‘student’ is one who attends school, college, or university. Today’s student is tomorrow’s leader. Their qualities determine their future. Who is a good student? What are their qualities? Which quality is most important for students? In this article, I will highlight the qualities of a good student in light of personal experience and various researches.

Definition of Student

According to Wikipedia– “A student is primarily a person enrolled in a school or other educational institution and who is under learning with goals of acquiring knowledge, developing professions and achieving easy employment at a particular field. In the broader sense, a student is anyone who applies themselves to the intensive intellectual engagement with some matter necessary to master it as part of some practical affair in which such mastery is basic or decisive.”

In Cambridge Dictionary, Student defined as- “a person who is studying at a college, university, or school.”

According to Dictionary.com, Student means- “a person formally engaged in learning, especially one enrolled in a school or college.”

Qualities of a good student

A good student cannot be just by studying. In this case, you have to have some unique qualities. Notable among these are-

  • Hardworking
  • Respectful to others
  • Participating in extra-curricular activities
  • Searching Knowledge
  • Confidence
  • Positive Attitude
  • Balanced
  • Self-reliance
  • Ambitious etc.

Now I will discuss the qualities in detail.

1. Discipline

Discipline is the leading quality of a good student. It means that for a student to be the best, he must strictly adhere to the study schedule. Every day he has to follow the instructions of his teachers and parents properly. The homework given in the class has to be done seriously. Time must be used properly. The rules and regulations of the institution must be followed.

2. Building Relationship

A good student builds good relationships with his classmates, teachers, and those involved in the institution. It enables him to take part in extra-curricular activities and concentrate more on his studies effectively. Also, quality relationships make it easier for students to participate in topics like study groups with other students. As a result, the student can understand difficult subjects easily.

 3. Hardworking

A good student must be diligent. Spend extra time at night if necessary to finish his lessons. The bottom line is that a good student avoids laziness and procrastination and strives to achieve goals.

 4. Respectful

Good students are always respectful of the country, nation, society, educational institution, and social norms and principles. They do not skimp on sacrificing academic interests for national needs. They are pioneers in volunteering in storms, floods, earthquakes, and other natural disasters. In addition to complying with domestic law, good students are respectful of teachers and classmates.

 5. Honesty

Another quality of a good student is honesty. They are honest in their actions, in their minds. They do not resort to any form of malpractice to achieve results and not resort to deception to do well in exams. They think it is essential to know more than a good score.

 6. Team Player

One of the qualities of good students is that they are good team players. Many times a student has to take part in group activities. It is vital to help each other to get good results in those cases. Good results cannot be achieved if the groupmates think they are competitors. 

7. Participating in extra-curricular activities

Students should not be lazy in participating in extra-curricular activities. It could be sports, arts, or anything else. Because it is essential in creating leadership skills. That is why a good student participates in all kinds of extra-curricular activities of the institution. They don’t just study.

8. Participatory

Good students are participatory in class. They answer teachers’ questions and participate in the class lectures. As a result, it is easier for them to learn. So shake off your hesitation if you want to be a good student. Concentrate on increasing class performance.

9. Searching Knowledge

Searching Knowledge is one of the qualities of a good student. They are always vowed to acquire knowledge in their respective fields. As a result, the more he knows, the more his thirst for knowledge increases. Thus he is always active in the path of acquiring knowledge.

10. Attention to Lessons

A good student is fully attentive to class lectures. When the teacher discusses something in the classroom, they try to assimilate it. Because they don’t have time to understand the same thing twice. They try to complete the class subjects in class. They spend their time in private or other activities.

11. Confidence

Confidence is an excellent quality of good students. We know that you can’t succeed without confidence. This quality must exist in a good student. And with confidence, they solve many problems. As a result, their interest in studies increased.

12. Thrifty

One of the qualities of good students is that they are economical. They calculate and spend. Spend as needed. This frugality helps keep him on track. Because, at unreasonable cost, a student can go astray. He/She can leave school and run away to gossip or a different world.

13. Positive Attitude

Good students do not come to the educational institution just for social activities. They love to work hard. That is why they have the mentality of correcting their previous mistakes and doing better in the next step. And they fill their gaps with hard work.

14. Goal-oriented

Good students have specific goals. They work to meet that goal. Expectations of excellent results without specific goals are unrealistic. So a good student makes individual plans for each semester or episode and performs the work accordingly.

15. Good listener

A good student is always a good listener. He listens attentively to the teacher’s lectures in class. Moreover, he works outside the classroom on the advice of teachers and parents. It balances his studies and life. To be a good student, you should improve your listening skills.

16. Patience

No matter how genius you are, hard times can come in life. Many things can be difficult. If you do not have patience, it will not be possible to deal with stressful situations. The situation needs to be changed through hard perseverance without losing patience in bad times or complicated matters. There is no way to stop learning.

17. Balanced

A good student lives a balanced life. They do not forget that they have family and siblings. Also, there have friends. So they make time for family, siblings, or friends outside of school. Their participation in various family or social activities is enviable.

18. Self-reliance

One of the qualities of good students is that they are self-reliant. They depend on themselves in all matters, including education. Don’t sit for the organization’s initiative in all things. Moreover, they prefer to do their work.

19. Good manner

The excellent manner in the classroom easily attracts the attention of teachers. Studies have shown that students who behave well can learn better than others in the class.

Many smart students in the class behave badly; they are a cause of frustration for teachers. Because it is difficult for teachers to manage such students, that is why, at one stage, the teachers tried to avoid them. As a result, those students fell behind in the academic field. So good behavior is essential to be a good student.

20. Seriousness

A common quality is seen in good students. That is – seriousness. They are serious about studies, exams, assignments. As a result, their results are different from others. They always try not to fail at any cost. They are also relevant to teachers because of their seriousness.

21. Optimistic

The whole academic period is not smooth for a student. There can be ups and downs in education. Good students are optimistic in this regard. If it ever goes wrong for any reason, it immediately tries to correct it and do something better. They are not disappointed for little reason.

22. Excellent organizer

A good student is an excellent organizer. This quality creates the gap between a good and average student. The student who makes a schedule every day must do better than others.

Study time, assessment time, participation in various extra-curricular organizational activities, etc. greatly help in the advancement of a good student. They benefit greatly, especially after school.

23. Simple-minded

Good students are usually simple-minded. They keep their minds simple. It solves many problems.

24. Commitment

Commitment is a quality that always keeps people confident. This quality exists in a good student. As a result, he can conduct academic activities with confidence. Naturally, his results are excellent.

25. Ambitious

Ambitious students never fail. They continue to strive for excellence. Ambition helps a student to work hard and work towards achieving extraordinary results.

26. Willing to learn

A good student is always eager to learn. When they get a chance to learn, they take it. If you don’t know anything, ask a question. If you can’t learn anything, learn from someone else.
